Slow Cooker Venison Sandwiches (No Gamey Taste!)

If you’re looking for a way to use up venison that the entire family will devour — even the picky eaters — this is it. This slow cooker recipe turns a 3-pound venison roast into tender, juicy, flavour-packed sandwiches with zero game flavour.

In our house? There were seconds… and thirds… and not a scrap left.

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds venison roast
  • 2 cups vegetable stock
  • 2 tablespoons onion flakes
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix (Clubhouse Brown is our favourite)
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • Sandwich buns (hamburger or brioche work great)
  • Salad (for serving on the side)

Instructions

1. Load the Slow Cooker

Place the 3-pound venison roast into your slow cooker.

In a bowl, mix together:

  • Vegetable stock
  • Onion flakes
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Soy sauce
  • Brown gravy mix
  • Cream of mushroom soup

Pour the mixture evenly over the roast.

2. Slow Cook

Put the lid on and cook:

8 hours on LOW

Do not rush this step — low and slow is the magic that makes the meat incredibly tender and removes any strong game flavour.

3. Shred the Meat

After 8 hours, the venison should be fall-apart tender.

Using two forks, pull the roast apart right in the slow cooker. Let the shredded meat soak in the rich gravy for about 10–15 minutes before serving so it absorbs all that flavour.

4. Serve

Spoon the shredded venison onto soft sandwich buns.

Serve with a fresh side salad to balance out the rich, savoury meat.

Why This Recipe Works

  • The vegetable stock keeps it moist.
  • The Worcestershire and soy sauce add depth.
  • The gravy mix and mushroom soup create a thick, savory sauce.
  • The long, slow cook time removes any strong game taste.

The result?

Tender, juicy, comforting sandwiches that taste like classic roast beef — not wild game.

Big Family Tip

If you’re feeding a crowd (like we are), this recipe is gold. Three pounds easily feeds a large family, and don’t be surprised when everyone goes back for seconds… or thirds. It’s also delicious by itself or on top of Yorkshire puddings or potatoes. The roast just falls apart in your mouth and leaves you wanting more.

It’s one of those meals where the house smells amazing all day — and by dinner time, no one can wait to dig in. Another great venison recipe is my chili cheese dogs with venison chili
