How to Install a Handheld Head Shower in Your Bathroom?

A nice hot shower after a hard day at work is the perfect way to rejuvenate and revitalize. It helps you to keep your mind fresh and recharge your body for the next day’s ordeal. There are several tools and faucets now available in the market that make your bathing experience a pleasant one.

One such equipment is the handheld head shower.  Many of us even have a personal favorite shower head that we use when we head to the bathroom. It works great when it comes to eliminating dirt from all the nooks and crannies of your, that is from your head to toe.

You can use it in two ways.

– With your hands

- Handsfree, if you insert it back into the shower head.

The next question that would come to your mind though is – how do we install it? With the help of proper tools and knowledge, installing a handheld showerhead can be completed within a matter of minutes.

How to Install a Handheld Head Shower the Easy Way

In this guide, I have tried to note down a few steps for the same that would make your life easier –

1.    Make Sure that Your Handheld Shower is Compatible With Your Existing Shower

Keep the following tools in handy when you set out to install your handheld shower head –

  • Your handheld showerhead kit

  • Tape (preferably Plumber’s)

  • A piece of leather or heavy cloth

  • An adjustable wrench

  • Tub spout with diverter

  • Hex key (as required)

Once you know that you have made the right purchase, it is time for you to get rid of the old showerhead. You could use an adjustable wrench for this purpose. Rotate the wrench counterclockwise to loosen it, which will make the showerhead move along with the nut, which is fine.

If you wish to save the finish of the showerhead for any future use, wrap it with a piece of heavy cloth.

2.    Preparing the Shower Arm

It would be best if you cleaned the shower arm to get rid of any mineral deposits, old pipe compounds or plumber’s tape. Use the plumber’s tape and wrap it in a clockwise direction around the shower arm.  This ensures that no leakage takes place after the induction of the shower arm.

3.    The Final Installation

It all depends on the user, how he wishes to install the shower. There are three types of fittings you could opt –

  • Cross T-Diverter Fitting

  • Standard fitting

  • Tub-Spout Diverter Valve

Choose the one you need to get started. Depending on your choice, you may need to mount it on the wall, or hand-tighten the original showerhead onto the other outlet.

Conclusion –

Do note that a single type of fitting may not work for all people. However, you may choose what works best for you. Using a handheld shower has many benefits such as –

a.    Performing bathing tasks from a seating position

b.    Pet owners to wash pets

c.    Parents to bathe children, and more.

A handheld showerhead is sure to be one of your better investments.
