The Essential Oils Diet by Dr. Eric & Sabrina Zielinski – Interview Q&A


SHORT BIO: The author of the National Bestseller, The Healing Power of Essential OilsDr. Eric Zielinski has pioneered natural living and Biblical health education since 2003. What exactly are essential oils and where do they come from?


Essential oils are the aromatic, volatile organic compounds found in the roots, bark, leaves, flowers and rind of plants and fruits. Meaning, they are the chemicals that release quickly from the plant into the air that gives off smell and a pleasing aroma. They provide protection for the plants (and subsequently to humans as well) as they are rich in antioxidants and are full of antimicrobial power (i.e. they ward off viruses, fungi and bacteria).


In broad strokes, why would somebody begin to use essential oils? What are the benefits?


Essential oils can help support health and wellness in so many ways. They are plant medicine in its purest form and have proven to be fantastic alternatives to potentially dangerous pharmaceuticals. From a focus blend in your diffuser at the start of a busy work day, to a detox bath at night to help cleanse your mind and body, essential oils are part of our daily routine for tens of millions of people across the globe.


What are bioactive compounds and why are they so important?


Bioactive compounds are other nonnutritive substances found in food that are technically not required for survival, but without their regular consumption, our lives would be much less pleasant. 


To put things into perspective, The European Journal of Nutrition published an article in 2013 that put it this way: “Whereas the absence of essential nutrients from the diet results in overt deficiency often times with moderate to severe physiological decrements, the absence of bioactive substances from the diet results in suboptimal health.” So, which should we chose? Enjoy “suboptimal health” to shed some quick pounds on a fad diet or follow a time-tested, balanced, proven approach, which will help someone reach their ideal weight and enjoy long-lasting health for years to come?


Another diet book, really? How is your new book new and can add value to the diet industry?


There are two reasons this is unlike any diet book that has been written before:

Reason #1: To our knowledge, this is the first book that describes using bioactive compounds such as essential oils to control your weight and help prevent disease. Most likely someone has not heard of “bioactive compounds” before, although we're sure that she is familiar with such terms as antioxidants and even polyphenols. Both are bioactives, which should be the real focus of a diet program.


Reason #2: Food is neither at the core of the problem nor is it the solution. The real issue is something totally different: Why do people fall prey to behavior that they know in their heart of hearts is bad for them? And more importantly, how do they escape that trap and transform their lives? That is the real subject of this book.


How are people responding to the book?
