5 Secrets to a Healthy Lawn

Having a great lawn is a must if you want to drive home value and make yourself proud of your home. But how do you make your front lawn stunning?

There are many lawn care tips out there, but not a lot of them think about how to create a healthy lawn. The secret isn't driven by using a handful of chemicals but by using science.

Enticing deep-rooted things in your lawn will sustain top health, achieving better soil health and greener grass.

Continue reading to learn what the secrets to a healthy lawn are.

1. Fertilize Regularly

Fertilizer is essential for a healthy lawn regardless of the type of grass you have on it, whether it is Kentucky bluegrass, tall fescue, or something else. Grass, like people, requires vitamins and minerals to stay healthy.

Fertilizer provides the nourishment that grass needs to grow thick and green. Always follow the manufacturer's directions on how much fertilizer to use.

Applying too much fertilizer can harm your lawn. Also, it's best to fertilize your lawn twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall.

This will help your grass stay healthy and green all year long.

2. Water Deeply and Sparingly

This will encourage the roots to grow deeper and stronger, making the lawn more drought-resistant. Water in the early morning or evening, when the sun is not as strong, to reduce evaporation.

Mulch the lawn to help retain moisture and keep the weeds down. Don't forget to fertilize and mow!

3. Mow High

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of how high to mow your lawn, as the ideal height depends on the type of grass you have. But, as a general rule of thumb, you should mow at the highest setting that your mower will allow.

This will ensure that your grass has the length it needs to develop a deep root system, which is key to a healthy lawn. Besides mowing high, you should also make sure to fertilize and water your lawn and aerate it yearly.

4. Aerate

Aeration helps to improve drainage, reduce compaction, and promote root growth. It is best to aerate in the fall, before the first frost, to allow the roots time to recover.

Aeration is also important in the spring to help the grass recover from the winter dormancy.

5. Overseed

It is the process of planting new grass seed into an existing lawn to thicken it up and improve its health. Many people think that overseeding is only for thin or damaged lawns, but it can be beneficial for all lawns.

Overseeding your lawn stimulates new growth, fills in bare spots, and makes your lawn appear more dense and lush.
