As a busy mom and business owner I have been through a lot. Started having kids when I was 18 and had 3 altogether each within two years of each other. I have always been extremely active and always busy moving and working but finally paid the toll for doing too much too fast by signs from my body.
My legs began to fill with nasty varicose veins and created plenty of issues. I was always cold, tired, my legs felt heavy and painful very consistently and I decided to go in and get it checked out. Apparently my veins were falling down and no longer moving blood properly, they found that my main artery in my right leg was the worst and it was one that I couldn’t even see. So time to fix the problem and do a vein stripping and foam fill.
I had my right leg stripped and my left leg filled with foam and tied off to stop the damage. The surgery only took an hour and a half and went very smooth. I woke up very tender and this lasted for days afterwards. They advised me to take a few weeks off work to recover and ensure everything heals properly.
Plenty of rest, ice packs, Tylenol and ibuprofen and everything worked out. I will remain wearing compression stockings for the rest of my life which is actually something everyone should do especially if they work on their feet for 8 hours a day.
To avoid needing this surgery I recommend going to the vein clinic or doctor at the first sign of varicose veins to find out the severity. Wear compression socks and listen to your body!
