There was a time when the idea of making content especially showing my face, absolutely terrified me. I would scroll through social media and see polished influencers, perfect backdrops, and picture-perfect lives. And there I was: an average mom, juggling kids, a business, and real life that didn’t always look Instagram-ready. The thought of putting myself out there felt overwhelming, and the fear of judgment held me back for years.
But as I slowly started testing the waters, something shifted. I realized people don’t want perfection, they want honesty. They want to hear real opinions from real people who live lives like theirs. When I started talking about products I actually used, sharing my genuine experiences, and embracing my everyday reality, people began to connect with me. Suddenly, being “just an average mom and business owner” became my strength instead of my weakness. Now I have this very successful blog, a steadily growing following on Instagram, and continue to grow and sign more deals everyday.
Over time, I learned how to make content that wasn’t just passable but stunning. I studied lighting, experimented with editing, and discovered ways to tell stories that resonate. I stopped focusing on trying to impress everyone and started creating content I actually enjoyed. And that made all the difference. I actually have gone through some of my competitors instagrams and other socials to the beginning of their journey and they all started out making cringy videos with no views as well. So unless you are already famous, you are gonna have to start somewhere.
Marketing to the masses and growing a following doesn’t have to mean selling your soul—it can be as simple as showing up as yourself. By being consistent, honest, and unafraid of sharing my perspective, I’ve been able to build trust with my audience. That trust translates into influence, and influence is what helps nearly any product succeed.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned? You only get one chance at this life. Worrying about what people think is wasted energy. Instead, put that energy into creating content you’re proud of, content that reflects who you are and what you believe in. Because when you do that, not only do people listen, they believe in you. It took time and effort to go from a young mom with nothing to the successful entrepreneur I am today.
So if you’ve been holding back like I once did, take this as your sign: be bold, be honest, and just make the content. You might be surprised at how many people are waiting to hear from someone exactly like you.
