Trying a new restaurant for the first time usually comes with a bit of hesitation—especially when dining out isn’t really your thing. Instead of sitting in a busy restaurant, we decided to try Leopold’s Tavern through Skip the Dishes, and it turned out to be an excellent introduction to what the brand does best: bold, indulgent comfort food done right.
From the moment the order arrived, it was clear this wasn’t typical pub fare. Everything was well-packaged, still hot, and clearly prepared with care. The flavours were rich, balanced, and indulgent without feeling sloppy—exactly what you hope for when ordering comfort food.
The Food
We went all in to get a true sense of the menu, and every category delivered.
The Scotch egg was perfectly cooked, with a crisp exterior and a satisfying bite. The Thai chili popcorn chicken stood out with its sweet heat and addictive crunch. The garlic bread bombs, paired with garlic mayo, were indulgent and impossible to stop eating.
When it came to shareables, the loaded queso dip and sour cream & onion dip were creamy, well-seasoned, and perfect for dipping. The MEGA mozza sticks lived up to their name—crispy, cheesy, and generously sized.
Leopold’s clearly takes poutine seriously. Both the Poutine of the Week and the BBQ Rancher Poutine with crispy chicken were hearty, flavour-packed, and generously portioned. The Baja tacos added a fresh, zesty balance to the heavier dishes, while the Burger of the Month and Chicken Sando of the Month proved that their rotating features are worth the attention—both were filling, well-constructed, and packed with flavour.
Even the lighter option, a Cobb salad with crispy chicken, didn’t feel like an afterthought. It was fresh, satisfying, and substantial enough to hold its own alongside the more indulgent items.
Dessert
Dessert somehow managed to impress after an already massive meal. The churro bites were warm, sweet, and comforting, while both the deep-fried cheesecake and deep-fried strawberry cheesecake were rich without being overwhelming—a strong finish to an already memorable spread.
Service & Delivery
The only item missing from the order was the pickled eggs, which were immediately reimbursed through Skip the Dishes with no hassle. The quick resolution made the experience stress-free and didn’t take away from the overall impression.
I absolutely love using Skip The Dishes as you can track the order right to the door, the drivers are always really quick and customer service is always easy to access in case of any mistakes, missed items, or other issues. We enjoy eating meals in the comfort of our home rather than going out to a restaurant so this is absolutely the best option.
Final Thoughts
Leopold’s Tavern exceeded expectations, especially as a takeout experience. The food travelled well, portions were generous, and the menu offered a wide range of options without sacrificing quality. For anyone who prefers enjoying great food at home rather than dining out, this was proof that you don’t have to compromise on flavour or experience.
This may have been our first time trying Leopold’s Tavern—but it definitely won’t be the last.
