What Are You Watching On Netflix?

When life is busy and downtime is limited, Netflix binge-worthy shows become more than entertainment—they’re a much-needed escape. Whether you love high-stakes action, powerful female leads, or laugh-out-loud comedy you can enjoy after a long day, these current favorites hit all the right notes. From crime dramas that keep you on the edge of your seat to comedies that deliver true belly laughs, here’s what we’re loving right now—and why they’re perfect for action fans and busy moms.

We setup our projector next to our hot tub so we can enjoy relaxing and watching movies after a long day. It’s so great to be able to chill with the family in a calm, environment without having other people around. Now we can soak and watch our favourites like these:

The Blacklist

If you love suspense, twists, and morally complex characters, The Blacklist remains a must-watch. The series centers around Raymond Reddington, a charming and dangerous criminal mastermind who unexpectedly helps the FBI take down other high-profile criminals. Each episode blends action, mystery, and psychological intrigue, making it easy to watch one episode—or five—without realizing how much time has passed. It’s ideal for action lovers who crave smart storytelling with constant surprises.

I love how funny Raymond Reddington is in this show. He is so kind, calm, and well educated and when he gets angry or is threatening someone his demeanour is hilarious. His calm and witty remarks make him sound like someone I would love to be friends with. One of my favourite parts is when he is holding a couple at gun point and puts the wife in the closet because she can’t stop screaming when he shoots her husband, just a small wound, and she begins to scream so he says in a very calm tone “if you don’t stop screaming I am going to have to shoot through this closet, also the stroganoff smells delicious. Sorry I cannot stay but maybe next time” it sounds like such an evil thing to say but the way he says it is comforting and reassuring.

He is definitely the highlight of the entire series.

Queen of the South

Queen of the South is a powerful, fast-paced crime drama featuring a fierce female lead. The show follows Teresa Mendoza as she rises from humble beginnings to become a major player in the drug-trafficking world. With intense action scenes, emotional depth, and themes of survival and resilience, this series is especially compelling for women who appreciate strong characters fighting their way to the top—no matter the odds.

In this amazing series there are so many ups and downs with Teresa’s poor life that it gives you an idea of what the criminal underworld looks like in Mexico. I love how it shows her come up from the life of a nobody to a total boss babe. The sad thing is when you work in the criminal world you are bound to have sacrifices and always risk losing the ones you love to people who are threatened by you or want what you have. Stepping on toes is never a good idea when the toes you step on can kill your whole family.

Working Moms

For busy moms everywhere, Working Moms feels a little too real—in the best way possible. This comedy tackles parenting, careers, relationships, and identity with honesty and humor. The episodes are short, relatable, and unapologetically funny, making it perfect for late-night watching when you want to laugh, unwind, and feel seen. It’s proof that comedy can be smart, raw, and incredibly comforting.

This show is one of the best shows I have ever watched. It takes the lives of being mothers and keeps it raw and real. From breast feeding struggles, to play groups, cheating spouses, and acid trips on a weekend getaway it hits home and makes you feel like your life as a mother is actually just like everyone else’s. Watching Kate grow into a huge success after all her struggles is compelling and inspiring.

Dead to Me

Dead to Me masterfully blends dark comedy with emotional storytelling. The series follows two women bonded by grief and secrets, delivering unexpected twists alongside heartfelt moments. It’s funny, sad, shocking, and deeply human—all at once. For viewers who enjoy drama with humor and complex friendships, this show is a standout binge that keeps you emotionally invested from start to finish.

The mystery of the whole story makes it instantly grab you and want more. Knowing the dark secret that is being kept and how a friendship can bloom out of a terrible tragedy makes you watch every episode with curiosity. Accidents, murder, and parenting through trauma is a great storyline for everyone to enjoy.

Black Rabbit

For those who enjoy darker, more intense thrillers, Black Rabbit brings a gritty, suspense-driven story to the screen. With a moody tone and layered characters, the series dives into crime, loyalty, and personal demons. It’s a great choice for action lovers who want something atmospheric and serious—perfect for evenings when you’re ready to fully immerse yourself in a gripping storyline.

This one is filled with twists and turns that you really need to pay attention to. Jason Bateman is a disappointment to his family and has nothing accomplished in life. He owes money to gangsters due to a gambling problem and needs his brother’s help. His brother played, by Jude Law, owns a successful restaurant but he has secrets of his own that are making life harder for everyone. With drugs, women, gangsters, and money problems the Black Rabbit is a place filled with dirty secrets.

Comedy Specials for a Guaranteed Belly Laugh

Sometimes, the best binge isn’t a series—it’s uncontrollable laughter.

Matt Rife

Matt Rife’s Netflix specials are fast-paced, bold, and packed with crowd work that makes every joke feel fresh and spontaneous. His humor is playful, edgy, and perfect for turning a stressful day into a laugh-filled night. If you love comedy that feels personal and energetic, Matt Rife delivers every time.

He has more specials on YouTube as well that you can watch for free. This guy doesn’t hold back and it’s fantastic! He will happily make jokes about people in wheelchairs, hippies, different races, appearances, and more. He is so kind on most of his shows he will pick someone from the crowd and give them one of his shirts and sign it as well as take photos. You can also pay for the VIP experience where you can play with puppies in the back and have the opportunity to adopt one!

Gabriel Iglesias

Known affectionately as “Fluffy,” Gabriel Iglesias brings warm, animated storytelling and family-friendly humor that still manages to be hilarious. His stand-up specials are full of sound effects, relatable stories, and nonstop laughs. He’s the perfect pick when you want comedy that’s uplifting, easy to watch, and guaranteed to leave you smiling.

We went to see “Fluffy” in Kelowna and it was such an amazing treat for our family. We stayed in the Grand Hotel (the same place as Fluffy) and walked to the venue. It was lovely to have a staycation, you can read about it here: https://www.funkyfrugalmommy.com/2024/05/our-stay-at-delta-grand-in-kelowna.html?m=1
