We had so much fun reading this book because the whole idea of a moose with a mustache is ridiculous in the best possible way. There is something about putting a giant, serious-looking moustache on a moose that makes it almost impossible not to smile. The silliness really pulled us into the story, and we found ourselves laughing, being goofy, and having fun with the whole idea.
Of course, we couldn’t just read about a moose with a mustache. We needed moustaches of our own!
So we pulled out some construction paper and popsicle sticks and made our very own little moustaches. We cut out different moustache shapes, attached them to popsicle sticks, and suddenly story time became a full-blown moustache party.
And let me tell you, everything is funnier when you have a fake moustache in front of your face. We held them up while reading, made silly voices, posed with them, and generally embraced the ridiculousness of it all. It was one of those simple activities where you start laughing and somehow the silliness just keeps getting better.
I especially loved how easy this activity was. We didn’t need anything fancy — just construction paper, popsicle sticks, scissors, and a little imagination. Sometimes the simplest crafts are the ones that create the biggest laughs.
This book was such a great reminder that reading doesn’t always have to be serious or educational. Sometimes it’s perfectly okay to sit down, be completely ridiculous, make terrible moustache jokes, and laugh together. Those are the moments kids remember.
