How To Make Your Outdoor Space Family Friendly

Whether you’ve recently moved into a new house and are looking to improve the outdoor space, or if you have lived in your home a while but never had to worry about it being family-friendly until now, there’s no better time to get your space sorted. If you’re lucky enough to have a big outside space where your kids can play, you want to make sure it’s safe and somewhere that you can all enjoy. You don’t want it to be too overrun with toys that you can’t relax, but you also want it to be somewhere those of all ages can enjoy and not worry about spoiling flowerbeds if they try and play a game. In this article we take a look at how to make your outdoor space family friendly.

Consider the plants you use

The plants you have in your garden can make a real difference to the space. Get rid of any unsafe trees by speaking to tree services experts and ensure you don’t have any plants that are poisonous or could harm the skin of your little ones. You also want to avoid plants that might be spikey or could stain clothes. Instead, stick with safe ones and think about having a small fence or something in front of them so they can’t get damaged by things like footballs or little feet trampling about!

Have designated areas for different things

If you have enough space, try and split your garden up into different zones. This can make it much nicer for all involved as adults can have a spot to relax in and host friends when they come around and children have a place where they can run riot with their toys and not worry about messing anything up. You can separate areas with plants, small fences, paths or lighting. If you have a swimming pool you need to ensure you’ve got a child-proof fence and gate around it to keep them safe.

Ensure there’s plenty of storage

Storage is super important for keeping a space family friendly. You want to be able to tidy away the kids' toys at the end of the day and make it a more adult-friendly space to spend time. If you have room, get a shed or a summer house, but if not, there are plenty of storage items out there, including large storage boxes which can be made of wood or plastic. These come in an array of sizes and are great for keeping everywhere organised.

These are just a few things you can do that can make your outdoor space ideal for the whole family. Whether you want to be able to sit, relax and enjoy the plants while your little ones dig in their own vegetable patch, or if you just want to make sure it’s safe for them to kick a ball about, these tips should help.
